POWER RANGERS TAKE FLIGHT

Episode 37: "Second Time Around, part 2"

Writer:  Joe Rovang

[ Sentai footage is from Jetman #26 (last act) unless otherwise noted. ]

DR. BERING (voice-over):
Previously on Power Rangers Take Flight:

[ Fade in to INT. SPACE STATION, AIRLOCK - Lying on the floor (see previous episode), LUKE groans and slowly awakens.  He grimaces and clutches the back of his head in pain.  He checks his hand for blood but sees none.  He then slowly rises with a grunt. ]

LUKE:
(grunts)  What happened...?

[ We see a brief flash to LUKE catching a glimpse of WILL standing over him before falling unconscious (see previous episode). ]

[ LUKE scowls while continuing to nurse the ache in his head. ]

LUKE:
Will...  (looks at the door)  I've gotta get out of here.

[ LUKE tries a control panel beside the door, but a buzzing sound signals his access is denied. ]

LUKE (cont'd):
I'm locked in.

[ INT. SPACE STATION CORRIDOR - Outside the airlock, we see RED RANGER prying the door open.  Stepping out into the hallway, he looks around carefully and then speaks: ]

LUKE (Red Ranger):
Power down.

[ LUKE demorphs with a red gleam. ]

LUKE (cont'd):
This place is so quiet.

[ INT. SPACE STATION QUARTERS - LUKE peeks into a living area (similar to the one shown in episode 2).  It seems to have been recently occupied, but no inhabitant is present. ]

LUKE:
Everyone's gone.  I'm too late.

[ INT. SPACE STATION CORRIDOR - At the end of the hallway, DILLIK pokes his head out from the doorway leading into the work bay (see episode 11). ]

DILLIK:
Hey!

[ LUKE startles. ]

[ DILLIK looks around before emerging from the work bay.  He then takes a few cautious steps in LUKE's direction. ]

DILLIK (cont'd):
Is-- Is your name Will?

LUKE:
Uhh... yes...?

DILLIK (relived):
Oh, whew!  For a second, I thought Trask might've missed somebody.  (puzzled)  Hey, I thought he would've sent you home by now.

LUKE:
Uhh, nope.  Do-- Do you think you could do it?  I'm kind of in a rush.

DILLIK:
Well... all right.  (gestures for Luke to follow him into the work bay)  But don't tell Trask you saw me out here.

[ LUKE takes a quick look behind him before following DILLIK into the work bay. ]

[ EXT. ABANDONED LOT - LUKE materializes from greenish-silver vertical streaks.  He walks off, tenderly rubbing the back of his head. ]

[ EXT. TIME BASE - We see an establishment shot of the Rangers' run-down garden apartment building (see previous episode). ]

CHRIS (voice-over):
You're just lucky you made it back in one piece.

[ INT. TIME BASE, LIVING ROOM - LISA is holding a bag of ice to the back of LUKE's head as the others are gathered attentively around him.  LUKE appears disheartened. ]

LUKE:
But I didn't save anybody.  I had the chance to set things right, and I got blindsided.

CASEY:
I just don't understand why he'd do that.

LISA:
He's a hateful jerk, that's why.

CASEY:
Well, I know, but... did he know you were from the future?

LUKE:
I don't think so.  I think he thought I was my younger self.

CHRIS:
Well, don't you see it?

[ LUKE looks to him. ]

CHRIS (cont'd):
If you hadn't gone up there, Will might've knocked out the younger you, and you never would've escaped to Earth with the Morphers.

[ The significance appears to dawn on the others. ]

PETE:
Wow, he's right.  And no Morphers, no Rangers.  Who knows what would've happened to the planet.

[ LUKE ponders. ]

[ INT. HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICE - In business attire, LUKE works on a computer (appropriate for 1992) in his office (see previous episode).  He glances at his MORPHER, in which we see the SOMEBODY melting in front of the four RANGERS in the quarry (from episode 3).  LUKE appears satisfied and returns to work. ]

PETE (voice-over):
After that, things were okay for a while.  In April, our younger selves became Rangers and battled Jinnsect monsters just like we did.  Oh, and our house went back off the market!

[ EXT. REGALA (NIGHT) - Outside a restaurant downtown one evening, PETE approaches in a suit and tie.  A Grand Opening banner hangs outside the restaurant, and a sign sports the name "Regala." ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
I also did some soul-searching.

[ INT. REGALA - In the posh restaurant, PETE takes a seat alone at a small table and looks around, seemingly impressed with the place.  The restaurant is packed with patrons.  PETE cranes his neck to glance at the food at the table next to him, but he nods politely and looks away once the people notice his gaze. ]

[ Dissolve to EXT. FIELD (NIGHT) - Standing on a hill overlooking the rest of the field below, the five HEROES watch a burst of fireworks (off-screen).  PETE is particularly enrapt. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
Then, on July Fourth, we watched the fireworks.  I liked it...

[ We zoom out and tilt down to see MAGGIE, CHRIS 2, and CASEY 2 in the crowd, just as they appeared in episode 20.  A short distance ahead, LUKE 2 and LISA 2 are reclined on a blanket (see episode 20).  All of them are oblivious to their doubles above, who are barely discernible from this distance. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
...but everyone else had already seen it.

[ We see CASEY 2 and CHRIS 2 from behind as CASEY 2 subtly reaches to touch CHRIS 2's hand.  CHRIS 2 then leans down to make a comment, at which point CASEY 2 kisses him awkwardly (see episode 20). ]

[ Above, LUKE, LISA, and PETE laugh and cheer at the sight below (no audio), but they then notice something to their left.  We whip-pan over to see CHRIS on one knee, offering CASEY an engagement ring.  She can barely contain herself. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
That's not to say things didn't get interesting, though...

[ INT. HOUSE, LIVING ROOM (AFTERNOON) - Gesturing wildly for a time-out, MAGGIE interrupts the story PETE is telling.  The other HEROES are gathered around. ]

MAGGIE:
Wait, wait, wait, wait!

[ MAGGIE looks to CASEY expectantly.  CASEY proudly displays the engagement ring, a modest solitaire diamond set in a gold band.  She beams happily. ]

MAGGIE (astonished, cont'd):
Are you KIDDING ME?!  You're engaged?!

[ CASEY and CHRIS smile at each other. ]

CHRIS:
Yeah, we are.

[ MAGGIE gapes.  PETE seems eager to return to the story. ]

PETE:
All right, but listen...  There's more.

[ EXT. BURNING HOUSE - Wearing black clothes and baseball caps pulled down to partially hide their faces, CHRIS and LISA evacuate a family from a burning house.  The house's style matches the neighborhood shown in episode 21. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
When Sasha's monster army attacked, we helped out here and there behind the scenes...

[ Soon, a fire truck arrives, and firefighters move CHRIS, LISA, and the family to a safe distance.  Just then, CHRIS looks up, and we see BLACK RANGER flying overhead, his wings outstretched. ]

[ EXT. CITY STREET - Wearing a similar black outfit, CASEY clears a group of girls playing jump-rope from the street.  (She is wearing her engagement ring, if it can be seen here.)  Shortly thereafter, PINK RANGER races by on a black motorcycle (see episode 21), blazing through the area where the girls were just playing. ]

[ CASEY tips her hat to the bewildered girls and departs. ]

[ EXT. BUS STOP - Trying to appear inconspicuous while dressed in a similar outfit, PETE stands among a group of people at a bus stop.  RESA (see episode 21) arrives on the scene and causes the group (including PETE) to vanish with white swirls of energy.  Our perspective follows the group, whom we find at: ]

[ EXT. MOUNTAIN PEAK - The group (with the exception of PETE) are astonished, and some terrified, to find themselves atop a remote mountain peak.  PETE, however, confidently calms the crowd (no audio) and produces a cell phone (appropriate for 1992). ]

[ EXT. CITY STREET - BOOMER (see episode 21) struts down a street, where he pauses to unleash a sonic shockwave.  Windows shatter all throughout the area. ]

[ As glass shards rain down on an unsuspecting OLD MAN walking down the sidewalk, LUKE, wearing black clothes of his own, emerges from an inset doorway directly nearby.  He pulls the OLD MAN to safety within the doorway, and the glass is obliterated against the sidewalk. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
By now, we'd decided it was okay to help out a little bit...

[ EXT. DOWNTOWN - Sasha's monster form is enveloped with bluish-white energy (US effect) (from episode 22). ]

monster

[ EXT. AIR BASE - At the abandoned air base, the RANGERS vanish with the same energy (from episode 22). ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
...because we all knew we'd be helping out soon anyway.

[ INT. BIKE SHOP - CHRIS enters the bike shop and looks around meaningfully. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
Just like our older selves did for us, we took our younger selves' places at work while they were out in space.

[ INT. MUSEUM GALLERY - While working in the museum in uniform, LUKE passes under a security camera and flashes it a self-conscious smile (see episode 25). ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
It's funny...  Messing with history becomes a whole lot easier when you know the versions before you did it too.

[ INT. FRANCO'S KITCHEN - PETE works at Franco's. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
I guess it's kinda self-fulfilling that way.  Once one team does something, all the rest after them think they're supposed to do it too.

[ INT. BOOKSMART CAFE - CASEY works at Booksmart.  (She is not wearing her engagement ring, if her hand is seen in any detail.) ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
So as the loops keep going, maybe sometimes we give in to temptation and fix something new, but we'd never un-fix something that was fixed for us.

[ INT. MUSEM GALLERY - LUKE takes a moment out of his work to talk with LISA. ]

PETE (voice-over):
(chuckles)  It's almost like the time loops gradually point us toward change.

LISA:
Hey.  I was just thinking... Could you please not fill in for yourself at our date tonight?  It... just makes me uncomfortable for some reason.

[ LUKE chuckles. ]

LUKE (amused):
I wasn't going to.  I'm gonna cancel when I get home like my future self did.

[ LISA looks aside awkwardly. ]

LISA:
Well, yeah, but...

[ LUKE looks beyond her toward the entrance.  There stands DETECTIVE MORALES. ]

[ Noticing him, LISA straightens as though she has something to hide. ]

LISA (cont'd):
Looks like you've got company.  I-- We'll talk later.

[ LISA exits.  Approaching LUKE, DETECTIVE MORALES nods politely to LISA as they pass.  He then speaks to LUKE. ]

DETECTIVE MORALES:
That was some battle.  Are you guys okay?

[ INT. TIME BASE, GUYS' ROOM (EVENING) - In a medium-sized bedroom with a bed and two cots, LUKE sits on the edge of the bed as he waits for an answer on the phone. ]

LISA (on phone):
Hello?

LUKE (faux-weakly):
Lisa, hi.  Um, listen, I'm not feeling so well, and I don't want you to catch anything.  Would it be okay if we postponed our date tonight?

LISA (on phone):
Oh, uhh, sure.  Yeah, no problem.

LUKE:
All right, great.  Umm, I'll call you when I'm feeling better, okay?

LISA (on phone):
Right.  Sure.  Do you need anything?

LUKE:
Uh, nope, I'm all set.  Thanks though.

LISA (on phone):
All right.  Well, I hope you feel better.

LUKE:
Thanks.  Bye.

LISA (on phone):
Bye.

[ He hangs up.  LISA stands at the doorway, having been listening.  LUKE appears satisfied. ]

LUKE:
Well, I think that went pretty well.

LISA:
That's what you think.  In a minute, she's going to try to call you back, and you're not going to answer, because nobody's at the house.  And she's going to get pretty depressed about it.

LUKE (concerned):
So what should I do?  What DID I do?

LISA (reluctantly):
... You go visit her.

[ LUKE puzzles over the information. ]

[ INT. LISA'S APARTMENT HALLWAY (NIGHT) - LUKE knocks on Lisa's door.  Soon, she opens the door wearing casual clothing and no MORPHER.  She is surprised to see him. ]

LISA:
Luke!

LUKE:
Hi.  Umm, can we talk?

LISA:
Of course!  Come in!

[ He enters, and she shuts the door. ]

[ INT. LISA'S APARTMENT HALLWAY (NIGHT, LATER) - LUKE exits in a hurry with LISA in tow.  His hair is ruffled. ]

LISA:
Luke, I'm sorry.  We can take it slow!

[ LUKE turns back. ]

LUKE:
No, it's just --  I'm sorry.  I wish I could explain.  I promise, this doesn't have anything to do with you.

LISA (wryly, with arms crossed):
It's not me, it's you?

LUKE:
Uhh, well, it's actually a secret mission more so than anything...

[ LISA raises an eyebrow. ]

LUKE (cont'd):
I'm sorry.  It'll make sense eventually, I promise.

[ LISA looks at him.  He looks at her apologetically and then leaves.  She watches him go. ]

[ INT. LISA'S APARTMENT - LISA wearily returns inside and shuts the door.  The phone then rings.  She answers. ]

LISA:
Hello?

LISA 2 (on phone):
Hi, Lisa.  This is Lisa.

[ LISA crinkles her face in disbelief. ]

LISA:
What...?

[ INT. TIME BASE, GUYS' ROOM (NIGHT) - The older Lisa, designated here as LISA 2, sits on the bed while talking on the phone. ]

LISA 2:
I know this doesn't make a lot of sense, but I'm you from the future.  I shouldn't tell you a lot of details, but you should know that guy who was just there wasn't really Luke.  Well, I mean, it wasn't your Luke.

[ EXT. TIME BASE (NIGHT) - LUKE gets out of a taxi and returns to the apartment.  LISA meets him at the door.  He stops and looks at her. ]

LUKE:
You knew that would happen, didn't you?

[ LISA shrugs with a sheepish smile. ]

[ INT. HOUSE, LIVING ROOM (AFTERNOON) - Passing through the living room with a bagged newspaper in hand, CASEY pauses to answer the phone (no audio).  (She is wearing her engagement ring, as she will be until otherwise noted.)  The room is lit only with ambient daylight.  While PETE narrates, CASEY appears to say, "Nope, she's not here.  Okay, bye," before hanging up.  She then enters the dining room. ]

PETE (voice-over):
But all in all, I think we did a good job keeping things the way they were for us.

[ INT. HOUSE, DINING ROOM (AFTERNOON) - CASEY removes the newspaper from its bag and sets it on the table, where several others are piled (see episode 25, though only one Sunday edition is present as yet).  On her way toward the back door, she grabs a ripe pear from the fruit bowl, leaving just a few apples (as seen in episode 25).  She takes a bite as she exits through the back door.  Outside, she crouches down and pets MOASI (see episode 28), who rubs against her leg. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
Of course, it's hard to know what's the "right" thing to do, since our timeline was hardly pristine when we lived it the first time though...

[ INT. HOUSE, MAGGIE'S ROOM (AFTERNOON) - In the master bedroom, we see a photocopied letter (see episode 25) resting on Maggie's bed. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
But things turned out pretty well for us, all things considered.  I think that has to count for something.

[ INT. DOLI'S HALLWAY - CHRIS brings DOLI numerous of grocery bags. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
So, anyway, as our week came to a close, we wrapped up just a few loose ends...

[ INT. MUSEUM LOBBY (AFTERNOON) - In uniform, LUKE speaks with a fascinated FRIEDA.  He then smiles and leaves. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
...and then we got the heck out of the way...

[ INT. HOUSE, DOWNSTAIRS (NIGHT) - The younger HEROES (including MAGGIE in place of Lisa) enter and examine the house carefully (from episode 25). ]

[ INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - LUKE and LISA (both wearing MORPHERS) stand beside DR. BERING's hospital bed (see episode 29) as she lies unconscious.  Her hair is damp, and she is covered in blankets.  Beside LUKE and LISA stands DOCTOR JENKINS (see episode 8), who holds a medical chart and explains something to them (no audio).  Both are wearing MORPHERS. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
...and got back to observing.

[ In close-up, we see the word "Hypothermia" on Dr. Bering's chart. ]

[ EXT. BIKE SHOP - MR. FISCHER turns around and finds the bike shop closed (from episode 27). ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
There were a few other times when we intervened, though...

[ Suddenly, the lights turn on, and CHRIS emerges from the shop with a nervous chuckle.  He is wearing the same clothes as seen on his younger self in episode 27. ]

CHRIS:
I'm sorry, Mr. Fischer.  That was a bad practical joke.  Completely tasteless.  I apologize.

[ MR. FISCHER studies him skeptically. ]

MR. FISCHER:
Chris, you're acting very erratic.  Is something wrong?

CHRIS:
No, sir.  Well, it's just... I actually have a girlfriend now.

[ MR. FISCHER blinks. ]

MR. FISCHER:
Well, Chris, that's quite something.  I'm happy for you.  (more sternly)  But I really do need you to keep up the pace here at work.

CHRIS:
Yes, sir, I understand.

[ MR. FISCHER cracks an admiring smile at CHRIS as he turns and leaves.  He then remembers something with a self-effacing chuckle and heads back into the bike shop. ]

MR. FISCHER:
Forgot my address book.

[ CHRIS quietly breathes a sigh of relief. ]

[ Dissolve to EXT. INDUSTRIAL PARK (NIGHT) - As seen in episode 27, we see CHRIS on his black motorcycle as he removes his helmet to look at Strife's debris. ]

PETE (voice-over):
But we were more discreet after that.

[ INT. TIME BASE, GUYS' ROOM (NIGHT) - On his cot, PETE sleeps restlessly, as do CHRIS and LUKE in their cot and bed, respectively. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
Just not so discreet that the demon-eater didn't find us in our dreams.

[ EXT. FIELD (Jetman #46) - The RANGERS ready their ECHO ENFORCERS and fire their combined blast.  It strikes TOMATO KING with an explosion. ]

Echo Enforcers Echo Enforcers Echo Enforcers Echo Enforcers Echo Enforcers Echo Enforcers

[ The RANGERS are relieved, but TOMATO KING then rises from the flames. ]

Rangers relieved Tomato King rises Tomato King rises Tomato King rises

[ YELLOW RANGER prepares to fire his ECHO ENFORCER, but TOMATO KING throws a tomato.  It affixes to his barrel. ]

Yellow aims Yellow aims Yellow aims throwing tomatoes throwing tomatoes tomatoed tomatoed

[ EXT. QUARRY (Jetman #29) - RED RANGER grapples VANG from behind and struggles to hold him.  (This scene is blurred like a dream sequence.  VANG's human eyes are also obscured with a black US effect.) ]

Red Ranger grapples Vang Red Ranger grapples Vang Red Ranger grapples Vang

[ EXT. AEROSPACE MUSEUM (Jetman #39) - ARTILLACAT blasts the RANGERS.  BLACK rolls aside.  (This scene is blurred like a dream sequence.) ]

Artillacat Artillacat Artillacat Artillacat Artillacat

[ EXT. MOUNTAINS (Jetman #7) - Giant MIRRORMITE assaults the MEGAZORD.  (This scene is blurred like a dream sequence.) ]

[ EXT. INDUSTRIAL AREA (Jetman #35) - SMOG RAT lands and turns to face the five RANGERS behind him.  He then blows black smoke, causing the RANGERS to spark.  (This scene is blurred like a dream sequence.) ]

Smog Rat Smog Rat Smog Rat Smog Rat Smog Rat Smog Rat Smog Rat Smog Rat

[ INT. TIME BASE, GIRLS' ROOM (NIGHT) - On separate beds in their room (see previous episode), LISA and CASEY startle awake simultaneously.  Puzzled, they blink and look at each other. ]

[ EXT. CITY STREET - LUKE talks on a pay phone (no audio).  In his hand is Casey's black journal. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
Anyway, Luke was still cautious about changing history, but when the time came, we did what we had to...

[ INT. POLICE STATION - DETECTIVE MORALES is on the other end of the phone (no audio).  He nods and thanks Luke before hanging up, and he immediately calls to others with a hand-written list in hand. ]

[ EXT. ROOFTOP - The five HEROES watch from a ledge as police officers evacuate a building below.  CASEY is now holding her black journal. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
...and kept everyone safe when they needed it.

[ EXT. MOUNTAINS - The MEGAKESTRELZORD's Gemini Beam destroys INFERNIS (from episode 29). ]

Infernis destroyed Infernis destroyed Infernis destroyed Infernis destroyed Infernis destroyed

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
Everything was working out just the way we wanted.

[ INT. TIME BASE, LIVING ROOM - Gathered to watch LUKE's MORPHER, the five HEROES cheer triumphantly. ]

[ Dissolve to INT. LAB - Resuming from the initial scene shown in episode 31, we see the five MORPHERS on an apparatus.  LISA watches the MORPHERS as DR. BERING works on a computer terminal nearby. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
But history was being guided more than most of us realized.

[ Almost simultaneously, all five MORPHERS display solid red indicator lights in the upper left corners of their displays.  The lights then turn off. ]

DR. BERING:
... And it's done.

LISA (confused):
W--  Just like that?  You didn't even open them up or anything.

DR. BERING (with a chuckle):
Sorry to disappoint, but this was just a firmware upgrade.  A firmware upgrade I happened to spend all week programming.

LISA:
Oh yeah?  So what kind of new stuff can they do now?

DR. BERING:
New stuff, you say?  Try this.

[ DR. BERING removes the two outer MORPHERS and hands LISA the right-most one, keeping the left-most.  DR. BERING then walks to the other side of the room and turns to face an expectant LISA. ]

DR. BERING (cont'd):
Hold down the upper left-hand button.

[ LISA does so.  The display's blue ring, at a scale of "60m," shows a tight cluster of red, purple, yellow, and pink dots in the center.  Outside the ring, in the direction corresponding to northwest, is an additional cluster of the same colors. ]

LISA:
It's... a blue ring and some dots.

DR. BERING:
It's a locator.  You see how the red one's apart from the others?  That's me.

[ LISA squints as she studies the display. ]

LISA:
Um... I see two sets of four dots.

DR. BERING:
Two sets?

[ DR. BERING curiously looks at LISA's display, which she shows her reluctantly. ]

LISA:
Yeah, four in the middle, and four over in the corner.

[ DR. BERING appears thoroughly puzzled. ]

DR. BERING:
That's not possible...  Every Morpher should only show the other four.  (with dawning realization) ...unless there really are duplicates of the Rangers out there.  ...and the Morphers!

[ LISA appears uncomfortable, as though she has revealed more than she intended.  There is then a subtle chime as a red indicator blinks in the upper right corner of the MORPHER's display. ]

[ LISA and DR. BERING look at each other.  DR. BERING then takes the MORPHER and presses the talk button. ]

DR. BERING (cautiously):
Hello?

LUKE (from Morpher):
Uhh, hi, Dr. Bering.

[ DR. BERING is enrapt.  She glances at the other three MORPHERS on the apparatus, seeming to check for a total of five in the room. ]

LUKE (from Morpher, cont'd):
Sorry to alarm you, but we have a small request for your locator mode.  Are you alone?

[ DR. BERING looks to LISA, who nods silently.  DR. BERING frowns skeptically in return but then answers: ]

DR. BERING:
Umm... yes.

LUKE (from Morpher):
All right.  We need to explain some stuff, but it has to stay a secret.

[ Dissolve to INT. LAB (LATER) - LISA absently listens from a chair nearby as a fascinated DR. BERING continues her conversation into the MORPHER. ]

LUKE (from Morpher):
... But the problem is, we're trying not to change history more than we have to, so we were hoping you could keep us hidden on the locator mode.

DR. BERING:
Hmm...  Well, I guess I could add some sort of stealth mode.  (studies the Morpher)  Like... what would work well?  Maybe if you held both of the left-hand buttons for a second or two...?

LUKE (from Morpher):
Hang on.

[ The extra red dot disappears from the MORPHER's display.  The other three extra dots then disappear as well, within a moment of each other. ]

LUKE (from Morpher, cont'd):
All right, did it work?

[ DR. BERING gives an incredulous chuckle. ]

DR. BERING:
Yes, it did.  Now let me actually go program it.

[ LISA smiles faintly. ]

LUKE (from Morpher):
All right.  Thanks, Dr. Bering.  Signing off.

[ DR. BERING sets down the MORPHER and stares into the distance in disbelief for a moment.  She then looks to LISA. ]

DR. BERING:
You knew all of this?

[ LISA smiles with an innocent shrug. ]

[ EXT. INDUSTRIAL AREA - We see SMOG RAT with his jaws locked on BLUE RANGER's hand, but when he throws her, she flips over him and punches herself free (from episode 31). ]

Blue Ranger vs. Smog Rat Blue Ranger vs. Smog Rat Blue Ranger vs. Smog Rat Blue Ranger vs. Smog Rat Blue Ranger vs. Smog Rat

PETE (voice-over):
Around that time, Lisa joined the team as the Blue Ranger.

[ EXT. TIME BASE, BACK YARD (LATE AFTERNOON) - LISA is absently looking at the sky in the back yard of their apartment building, the daylight matching the final scene of episode 31. ]

PETE (voice-over):
What we didn't realize was that she knew a lot more than us about our duplicates.

[ LISA's MORPHER chimes with a subtle tone.  She smiles gently and presses the talk button. ]

LISA:
Hey.

LISA 2 (from Morpher):
Hey.

LISA:
So, congratulations, Blue Ranger.

LISA 2 (from Morpher):
(laughs)  Thanks.

LISA:
I guess things are starting to make a little more sense...?

LISA 2 (from Morpher):
A little...  (pauses)  So, I guess I went kinda overboard trying to prove myself today, huh?

[ LISA smirks. ]

LISA:
Kinda.  Just remember you're part of a team now.  (more cheerfully) You'll do fine... I promise.

LISA 2 (from Morpher):
(pauses)  Oh, I gotta go.  Man, I wish I knew what happened to you guys.

LISA:
Ehh, you'll find out soon enough.  Tell Luke I said hi.

LISA 2 (from Morpher):
Very funny.

[ LISA lowers her MORPHER and looks at the sunset. ]

PETE (voice-over):
In fact, if it weren't for her, who knows how things would've ended up.

[ EXT. SPACE STATION - We see the space station as it appeared prior to the explosion in episode 32.  Both villain ships are docked to the station.  A caption reads, "Days later..." ]

LUKE (voice-over):
Go protect Dr. Bering!  She's alone back there!

[ INT. SPACE STATION CORRIDOR - BLUE RANGER dashes through a hallway and finds her way to: ]

[ INT. SPACE STATION COMMAND - Upon entering, BLUE RANGER approaches the wall controls.  (In the center of the room are the twisted remains of Will's cryogenic container, as seen in episode 32.) ]

[ BLUE RANGER's fingers hover over the controls as she hesitates. ]

LISA (Blue Ranger):
All right, Lisa, don't panic.  We practiced this.

[ BLUE enters a series of commands using the buttons on the wall (similar to the sequence shown in episode 33). ]

[ As BLUE presses the final button, a second Lisa, designated here as LISA 2, appears with greenish-silver vertical streaks.  She nods approvingly to BLUE RANGER. ]

LISA 2:
Nice work.

[ BLUE RANGER seems to be in a hurry to leave. ]

LISA (Blue Ranger):
That's great.  Now can I go?

[ LISA 2 smirks. ]

LISA 2:
Yeah, go on.  I'll take it from here.

[ BLUE RANGER dashes off.  LISA 2 mans the wall console. ]

[ EXT. SPACE STATION - TRASK'S SHIP disengages from the space station and begins to fly away. ]

[ INT. SPACE STATION, DILLIK'S LAB - His STAR HANDLE sword impaled through DEMI-GOG's torso, DILLIK calls out to DR. BERING (as seen in episode 32). ]

DILLIK:
Go!  Get out of here!

[ BLUE RANGER staggers to DR. BERING's aid and pulls her out the door. ]

LISA (Blue Ranger):
Come on!

[ DEMI-GOG crushes the STAR HANDLE in his hand.  As its casing cracks, white light pours out from within. ]

[ DILLIK shields his eyes as the light grows brighter. ]

[ EXT. SPACE STATION - As seen in episode 32, the four FLYERS join HAWK ONE in flying away from the station.  Just then, a blinding white explosion bursts out from the side of the station. ]

[ INT. CRUISER COCKPIT (DARK) - As seen in episode 32, DR. BERING looks down in dismay. ]

DR. BERING:
Dillik...

[ INT. VILLAIN SHIP - Wearing her clothes just seen in the space station, LISA is at the controls of Trask's ship.  Behind her, DILLIK materializes from greenish-silver vertical streaks, his pose matching his last appearance.  He is surprised by his surroundings. ]

DILLIK:
What the...?  (to Lisa, alarmed)  Who are you?!

[ LISA turns to speak with him.  Outer space is seen outside the viewscreen. ]

LISA:
I'm the Blue Ranger.  I'm glad you're safe, Dillik.

DILLIK:
Blue Ranger?!  (looks around anxiously)  W-- Where's Vanessa?

LISA:
She's safe and sound.  Everybody's okay.

DILLIK:
But... how?

[ Dissolve to EXT. BEACH - TRASK'S SHIP rests on the sands of a remote beach surrounded by rocky cliffs.  A small speedboat is anchored nearby.  LISA and DILLIK sit on a large rock, in conversation.  DILLIK is wearing his clear helmet (see episode 31). ]

DILLIK:
So you've all been here this whole time, keeping history on track the way you wanted it?

LISA:
Pretty much.

DILLIK:
And... you chose to save me?

[ LISA nods. ]

DILLIK (cont'd):
Was I supposed to die up there?

LISA:
Not if I had anything to do about it.  The Lisa before me saved you, and so did the Lisa before her, and so on, as far back as anyone knows.

DILLIK:
I... don't know what to say.  Thank you...?

LISA (with a smile):
You're welcome.

DILLIK (with dawning realization):
Well, this means I can call off the attacks!  I can go talk to Trask and Mainframe and --

LISA:
But, Dillik...  If you do that, we don't get to go back in time.  That monster Mainframe sends... he's the only way we can go back and set things right.  All those people we saved from those buildings...  And who'd save you from the explosion?

[ DILLIK ponders. ]

DILLIK:
Well, we could still try to make a monster who sends people through time...  (frowns) ...although their powers sure are hard to predict...

LISA (thinking):
Hmm...  And I don't know what kinds of decisions we'd make if we got sent back in time some other way.  (shakes her head)  Yeah, everything ends up okay this way.  We really should let things just work out the way they would have.

DILLIK:
(sighs)  Okay...  But there's something I have to warn you about.

[ EXT. TIME BASE, BACK YARD (NIGHT) - LISA stands with her arms crossed beside a tree in the back yard.  She is wearing a long-sleeved shirt. ]

PETE (voice-over):
But Lisa's secret didn't stay a secret forever.

[ LUKE approaches her from behind. ]

LUKE:
Hey.

[ LISA turns, somewhat surprised to see him. ]

LISA:
Oh!  Luke... hi.

LUKE:
Whatcha doing?

[ Her MORPHER issues a subtle alert tone, and a blue light in the upper right corner of its display blinks prominently in the darkness.  LISA awkwardly tries to cover the display, but she quickly gives up. ]

[ LUKE frowns in confusion.  He seems unable to make sense of the blinking light. ]

LUKE:
How is that possible...?  Y-- Your past self is calling you?

[ LISA doesn't answer. ]

LUKE (cont'd, with growing unrest):
Why is your past self calling you?

LISA:
(after a pause)  ... She's upset.  This was when my mom revealed my identity.

LUKE:
But... why is she calling YOU?

[ LISA tries to form a response but is speechless. ]

LUKE (cont'd, slightly upset):
You've been talking with her?

[ LISA looks down. ]

LUKE (cont'd):
What have you told her?

LISA (guiltily):
Look, Luke...

LUKE:
How much more have we changed?

[ LISA closes her eyes and takes a breath. ]

[ INT. SPACE STATION, LISA'S QUARTERS - In her black uniform, LISA lies curled up on her bed, crying softly (see episode 34). ]

[ INT. TIME BASE, LIVING ROOM (NIGHT) - The HEROES are gathered in the living room.  On one side of the room, LISA sits dejectedly and stares toward the floor.  CASEY is wearing black clothes with a black baseball cap (as seen during the earlier monster army assistance scenes). ]

LUKE:
So, until further notice, we won't be making any more interventions in history.

[ PETE, CASEY, and CHRIS are appalled. ]

CASEY:
What?

CHRIS:
Dude, you can't be serious.  We've been preparing for this all year!

PETE (disappointedly):
What about my French lessons?

LUKE (sternly):
I'm sorry.  We've been making too many revisions.  We need to give it a rest until we can figure out a new plan.

CASEY:
But... what about the people at the monuments?

LUKE:
There were no fatalities reported at any of the attack sites.

CHRIS:
Yeah, but we don't know if that was with or without our help.  Are you really willing to risk it?  I'm not.

[ LUKE remains tight-lipped. ]

[ EXT. GIZA POLICE STATION - In black, CASEY speaks less-than-perfect Arabic to a small group of skeptical Egyptian police officers.  One officer instructs her to come inside, but she takes a step back and beams up into the sky with green light.  The officers are stunned. ]

[ EXT. LOUVRE - Also in black, PETE directs tourists away from the Louvre Pyramid, speaking in passable French. ]

[ EXT. CARAL - In black as well, CHRIS leads tourists away from the rocky, pyramid-shaped mounds of Caral, speaking in decent Spanish. ]

[ EXT. TEOTIHUACAN - Likewise in black, LISA speaks fluent Spanish as she instructs tourists to back away from the Pyramid of the Sun. ]

[ INT. TIME BASE, LIVING ROOM - Still in black, the four HEROES wait anxiously as LUKE paces the room, also in black.  Behind him, a TV shows a news report of the various pyramid attacks, including the one on Monk's Mound in Cahokia. ]

PETE (voice-over):
The attacks came as expected, and as Brimstone's attack on San Francisco grew closer, we knew what we had to do.

[ LUKE finally throws up his hands in defeat. ]

LUKE:
All right!  Let's go already!

[ The other HEROES are relieved, and all five hastily exit. ]

[ EXT. HARBOR (from episode 34) - RED RANGER leaps through the air and delivers a BATTLIZER punch to BRIMSTONE.  BLACK and BLUE follow with spiraling BATTLIZER punches, and YELLOW and PINK finish with Battlizer Beams. ]

Uhh, we're running out of weapons here!

LUKE (Red Ranger):
We've gotta buy Dr. Bering more time.  Phoenix Blade!

[ PINK RANGER shakes her head. ]

CASEY (Pink Ranger):
She's not gonna like this...

DR. BERING (from controls):

[ INT. KESTREL COCKPIT - The five RANGERS are jostled heavily as the Zord hits the ground (off-screen). ]

[ INT. MEGAZORD COCKPIT - The four RANGERS look on and listen. ]

DR. BERING (from controls):
Rangers, I've lost track of the Battlezord.  But I've got good news...  The Mega Kestrelzord is back in business.

[ The four RANGERS shake their heads in dismay. ]

PETE (Yellow Ranger):
Well, Lisa tried to warn them.

LUKE (Red Ranger):
Come on.  I think we've done enough here.

[ EXT. OLD HOUSE (MID-AFTERNOON) - We revisit the end of episode 34 as BLUE RANGER addresses the media. ]

LISA 2 (Blue Ranger, boldly):
If and when we choose to reveal ourselves, we will do it on our terms.  In the meantime, try to look into something useful, will you?  (subtly takes a threatening half-step toward Jake)  Like drug dealers in our neighborhoods.

[ JAKE apprehensively steps behind GLENN. ]

[ BLUE RANGER turns away from JAKE and salutes the crowd. ]

LISA 2 (Blue Ranger, cont'd):
And now if you'll excuse me...

[ The reporters clamor forward, but BLUE RANGER leaps into the sky and is gone almost instantly. ]

[ Nearby, LISA chuckles to herself, apparently impressed with "herself."  She turns and is surprised to see a sorrowful MELODY waiting to speak with her. ]

LISA:
Ma...

MELODY:
I'm so sorry, baby.

[ EXT. TIME BASE, BACK YARD - LUKE sits alone in the back yard, watching his MORPHER. ]

PETE (voice-over):
Things were kinda awkward for a little while in the Time Base...

[ In the MORPHER's display, we see KORA'S SHIP departing from the quarry (from episode 35). ]

[ LISA joins LUKE outside.  She smiles faintly, and he returns the expression.  She then sits beside him and watches his MORPHER's display with him. ]

PETE (voice-over, cont'd):
... but once it was clear things were turning out just like we wanted them, it was kinda hard to argue with Lisa's results.  Without all of our changes, who knew how history would've turned out?

[ INT. HOUSE, LIVING ROOM (AFTERNOON) - MAGGIE blinks. ]

MAGGIE:
So... this is, like, the first time in a year that you're actually living your lives for the first time through...

LISA (grumpily):
Yeah, and I'm not liking it one bit.

[ MAGGIE smirks. ]

PETE:
Seriously, it is weird, not knowing what's gonna happen anymore.

CASEY:
Definitely.  And it's like... we're still in control of our own destinies, but now we don't have anything to compare it against to know if we're on the right track.

LISA:
Yeah.

LUKE:
And we each have a big decision to make...  Which careers do we stick with?

MAGGIE:
Oh, that's right!  You've all been working two jobs, between the two sets of you.

LUKE:
Yep.  We're all starting two weeks off our new jobs right now, to give us a chance to figure everything out.

LISA:
I think I know what I'm gonna do.  ... Not that it wasn't interesting working on a boat.

PETE:
You'll probably smell better working on the space station again.

[ LISA playfully punches PETE in the arm. ]

CASEY:
Well, I like my operator job, and my co-workers too...  But I miss seeing customers face-to-face.  What about you, Luke?

LUKE:
Well, I like Hawkins a lot, but I'm still working under an alias there.  I think I'd like to be myself again.

CHRIS:
Maybe you could tell them you decided to change your name.

[ LUKE chuckles, dismissing the idea. ]

CASEY (to Chris):
What about you, baby?

CHRIS:
Mike's, no contest.  They let me do artwork over there.

[ MAGGIE looks to PETE. ]

How about you, Pete?
